Are earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters covered on my Homeowners insurance policy?

Generally, fire is covered under the Homeowners insurance policy. Earthquakes and floods, however, are not. There are many types of policies that you can purchase from your insurance agent and talk things out. The risk of these disasters happening depends on where you live. Purchasing a house is probably the largest investment that you will ever make. Floods and earthquakes are quite unwanted guests and it would probably be a good idea to prepare for them.

Even though your policy probably doesn't cover against earthquakes and floods, this doesn't mean that you can't protect your house from them. If you can't afford to purchase extra policies, it still wouldn't hurt to try and speak with your financial insurance consultant. Work things out. If you are a customer with them for a long period of time, remind them that you are a valued customer of their insurance; maybe they'll offer you a discount. Floods and earthquakes are common perils and most people simply don't understand that fact. If purchasing separate policies for floods and earthquakes will happen to be too expensive. Don't forget that shopping around for insurance won't be too bad.

If you don't have insurance yet, but want to purchase a policy that includes coverage for earthquakes and floods, then you might want to surf the internet or call a few companies and compare rates. Never underestimate that floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc... happen all the time and you can't depend on luck when it comes to this matter. Purchasing policies will be more expensive than your previous monthly payment, but at least, this way, you will be safe and know that your house is secured. Don't forget that your insurance company can negotiate a reasonable price with you. If you think that they are ripping you off, and if you want a better deal when you are positive that you can get one, search for better deals. A person, who looks, eventually will find.
