Handling an Accident?
What to do in case of an Accident? Follow these steps:
- Be calm. Do not leave the scene.
- If you or other parties are injured and need help, call 911.
- Call the police to report the accident.
- Do not admit fault even if you think you are at fault.
Have your driver's license, insurance information, pen and paper ready.
- You will need to exchange the following information:
- Driver's name, address, phone number.
- Insurance information, including; insurance company name, agent name and phone number, policy number and expiration date.
- Write down the following information:
- Year, make and model of all vehicles involved.
- Name and phone numbers of witnesses, if any.
- Sketch a diagram of vehicles involved in an accident, prior and at a point of impact, include positions and describe damages. It is helpful to make photos at the scene.
Note: You may try to call police or highway patrol. If they agree to come, just wait, otherwise offer to exchange information. If you are on a freeway, use roadside phones monitored by the highway patrol.
