Handling an Accident?

What to do in case of an Accident? Follow these steps:

  1. Be calm. Do not leave the scene.
  2. If you or other parties are injured and need help, call 911.
  3. Call the police to report the accident.
  4. Do not admit fault even if you think you are at fault.

Have your driver's license, insurance information, pen and paper ready.

  1. You will need to exchange the following information:
    • Driver's name, address, phone number.
    • Insurance information, including; insurance company name, agent name and phone number, policy number and expiration date.
    • Write down the following information:
    • Year, make and model of all vehicles involved.
    • Name and phone numbers of witnesses, if any.
    • Sketch a diagram of vehicles involved in an accident, prior and at a point of impact, include positions and describe damages. It is helpful to make photos at the scene.

Note: You may try to call police or highway patrol. If they agree to come, just wait, otherwise offer to exchange information. If you are on a freeway, use roadside phones monitored by the highway patrol.
