Prepare for your Life Insurance Medical Exam

life_insurance_If you are over the age of 40, and if you are applying for life insurance coverage of equal to or more than $100,000 then you probably will have to take a medical exam. You will probably be asked to take this exam when applying for your policy. The older you are, the less life insurance you will be able to buy without a medical exam. In fact, the older you are the more likely you are to be sick with a certain type of medical condition. This is probably why you have to take this exam in the first place.

A typical medical exam will probably include urine tests, blood work and a basic physical check-up. However, if you are diagnosed with something on your medical exam, or if they simply tell you that your health isn't in the best condition that it can be, that means that you will probably have to pay a lot more for your life insurance than a person who has good health and who's in good condition. You'll probably pay more than a person who is just younger than you are.

If you suffer from a serious medical condition, there is no way to hide it. You probably shouldn't try to hide it, either. If you don't tell your insurance company about a certain medical condition that you have, keep in mind that insurance companies have access to an amazing amount of medical information through the Medical Information Bureau. If they do find out that you were lying to them, there's a good chance that if you do die because of the illness, the company may choose not to pay your death benefit.

We provided you with a few simple steps that you can take in order to make sure that you get the best possible results from your medical examination:

  • Don't smoke for at least one hour before the exam.
  • Don't drink any alcohol for at least eight hours before the exam.
  • Don't eat for about eight hours before the exam, in order to receive the best results.
  • Make sure that you rest well and get a good night's sleep before the exam.
  • Don't engage in exhausting exercise for 24 hours before the examination will take place.
  • Avoid caffeine for at least one hour before the exam.
  • Try not to eat salty foods or those high in cholesterol for 24 hours before the medical examination.
  • If you do, by any chance, get sick before the exam - cancel it; even a small infection can affect your results in a negative manner.
