Health Insurance and Financial Risks

Have you ever thought about the ramifications of not having health insurance coverage? Most people who have pondered this believe that the only bad thing that could happen would be that they jeopardize their health. As if that was not bad enough, not having a health insurance policy can also put you at financial risk as well.

Every year, thousands of people go bankrupt because of medical bills that they cannot afford to pay. And do you know the reason why they cannot pay these? Simply put, they do not have any health insurance to give them the help that they need. After all, a major illness or accident could cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills. If you have health insurance, most of this will be covered by your provider. But guess what? If you elect to pass on coverage, every last penny is your responsibility. And if you are like most people, you do not have enough money to pay off bills of this size. In turn, this leads to your financial life becoming ruined, and in many cases bankruptcy.

The financial risk that you take by not purchasing health insurance far outweighs the cost or paying a monthly premium. Although it may not be the best coverage, you should be able to find some kind of health insurance policy in the $100/month range. Over the course of a year, this only works out to $1,200. As you probably know, a couple of tests at the hospital are sure to cost way more than this.

Don't make the mistake of skipping on health insurance coverage, and putting your entire savings at risk. Instead, purchase any type of policy that you can get your hands on. You will be glad that you did if something ever happens to you.
