What type of Health Insurance Consumer are you?

As a consumer in the market for health insurance, you are not going to think or act in the same way as everybody else in your position. You need to have a good idea of what type of health insurance consumer you are before getting started. Of course, you will learn a lot about yourself along the way as well.

There are several groups that you may fall into. First and foremost, there are those health insurance consumers who are interested in nothing more than saving money. These buyers search far and wide for the cheapest policy available. This may sound like a good idea, but you need to keep in mind that a low price is only good if you are perfectly healthy. If you need to see a doctor, you will probably want to have a higher level of coverage in order to minimize the amount of money that you have to pay out of pocket.

On the extreme opposite side, there are those consumers who want to have the best of the best in health insurance. These people know that their health is very important. To go along with this, they are also aware that more coverage usually means that out of pocket expenses are kept to a minimum.

If you do not feel like going to one extreme or the next, you would be best off as a consumer somewhere in the middle. In this group you are concerned with keeping costs low, but not at the risk of not having enough coverage. Generally speaking, this is the largest group of health insurance consumers, and where you probably fit in.

As you shop, you will get a better feel for what type of consumer you are. Are you interested in pinching pennies, or is money no factor in your decision?
